General Notes:

bonmidi music

offers Midifiles in the formats GM GS, XG XF and Genos for direct download.
The Midifiles are available with Melody line,
Lyrics, Chords and Vocalist track. For details see the respective title description.

Also available in direct download are mp3 playbacks based on our midifiles. The mp3 playbacks are available as mp3 with lyrics display, pre-counter and a LRC file for karaoke. They are available in several formats, with and without melody line, as well as special recordings with the YAMAHA keyboard GENOS. For details see the respective title description.

On request, the mp3 playbacks are also immediately available as recordings with the YAMAHA keyboard TYROS 4.

The display of the lyrics with hyphenation takes place in the midifiles and the mp3-playbacks in the chronological order.

For the Yamaha Keyboard Genos there are Midifiles in the format "Genos". These are specially adapted and expanded XG XF Midifiles. The use of the various sound variants in conjunction with the DSP's allow first-class, excellent midifiles. And as a special feature, the Genos can display mp3 playbacks with lyrics and scroll them syllable by syllable to the song flow.

Of course, all our XG XF Midifiles also run on the Genos.

Notes on the Midifile format GM GS

Innovations from the year of production 2018:

A.  The GM GS Midifile is delivered in the format  "0 ."
B.  GM GS Midifiles now include the chords for midifile players and keyboards that can represent XF chords.

For GM GS Midifiles from previous production (until the end of 2017):
A.  The delivery of our GM GS Midifiles includes two versions:
- 1x the Midifile in the GM GS format "0"   and
- 1x the Midifile in the GM GS format "1"
Both versions are musically the same, there is no difference.

B.  A chord display with the older GM GS Midifiles is not carried out, but can be carried out retrospectively by us if desired.

C.  The file names indicate whether format is "0" or "1".
For format "0", the file name end is a -0.mid
for format "1", the file name end is a -1.mid

Please test the version required for your keyboard on functionality such as:
"Load" and "Save" the Midifile.

Tip for malfunctions:
If the filename is too long, shorten it to a maximum length of 8 letters or numbers.
Do not forget to add the Sufix (.mid) at the end of the file name.

For example:
"Sweet Love - Rudy de Wit.mid"
reduced:
"SwetLvRW.mid" (without quotation marks!)

Useful Notes:

The lyrics track - included in all vocal tunes - is available with all song titles and is placed on an additional track. Many also know this special track as a karaoke track.
Likewise, this lyrics track is used to display the chords of the song in instrumental pieces, which also change in the time song sequence.

If a Yamaha keyboard is detected, the Midifiles switch to XF-mode and the chords are also displayed. If a score window is present, the note display of the Channel 1 (melody track) is performed with the preset keyboard setup.

Our XG XF and Genos Midifiles contain the chords that appear above the lyrics in a second line with appropriately equiped Yamaha keyboards. In the case of instrumental titels, the chord display is performed instead of the lyrics.

Our GM GS Midifiles from the year of release 2018 now also contain the chords.

Within the arranged Vocalists track on channel 15, controller and program change commands are used that are necessary for controlling special vocalists and Harmonizer devices, such as DigiTech (Vocalist II), TC-Helicon (VoiceWorks, Harmony M, etc) are.
More information about the arranged vocalist track can be found further down on this page.

The GM GS Midifiles include additional special system exclusive commands (SysEx) for the ROLAND Keyboards/Sound modules. With this, targeted basic settings are made on these devices, which lead to significant sound improvements of the Midifiles.

The XG XF Midifiles include additional special system exclusive commands (SysEx) for the Yamaha keybord Tyros. With this, targeted basic settings are made on these devices, which lead to significant sound improvements of the Midifiles.
By means of SysEx, the Tyros internal vocalist is also controlled in many Midifiles and the channel 15 is switched to the vocoder.

The Genos Midifiles include additional special system exclusive commands (SysEx) for the Yamaha Keybord Genos. With this, targeted basic settings are made on these devices, which among other things lead to significant sound improvements of the Midifiles.

With SysEx commands the internal vocalist is also addressed and the function "VocoderXG" is activated. When the Midifile is started, the vocoder is automatically switched on, the vocal harmony display on the keyboard lights up, and the reverb and chorus effects are adjusted. At the end of the Midifiles, the vocoder is turned off, the vocal harmony indicator goes off, and the reverb and chorus effects revert back to the default setting.

Good to know:
For devices from other manufacturers, these additional SysEx commands are irrelevant. They are simply not recognized and thus in no way interfere with the reproduction and using of these Midifiles.

Please note:
Only in dealing with SysEx experienced persons should make interventions here. Deleting these SexEx commands may affect the Midifile in its intended mode of action. Therefore, in case of doubt, these SxsEx should be left in the Midifile and not changed.
In addition, SysEx commands are small data files and require the smallest storage capacity.

Note this important note when dealing with appropriate utilities that you use for your own changes or adjustments.

Finally, our note:
Please consider when using our Midifiles that not all sounds on all keyboards and sound modules etc can sound the same. This is not a manufacturing fault on our part, but is due to the basic sound programming of the respective device manufacturers.

What you always wanted to know about Midifiles

  • What is MIDI?
MIDI = Musical Instrument Digital Interface

  • MF-0 = MIDI file format "zero"
All instruments / channels are on track 1. Up to 16 channels for instruments/sounds can be stored. (Older) keyboards and Midifile players often use this format.

  • MF-1 = MIDI file format "one"
Separate channels, i.e. each instrument/sound is on a single track (channel 1 on track 1, channel 2 on track 2, etc.). Computer and sequencer software use this format for easier editing of the respective tracks.

  • GM = General MIDI (Standard)
A standard for the sound assignment. The use of this standard means that a Midifile on all GM-compatible devices (keyboards, sequencers, etc) will sound the same or at least similar. In practice, however, the sound quality differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.

  • GS
A further development of the GM standard by the company ROLAND. This standard is backward compatible, which means that a title in GS format is basically played on a GM device. Occasionally, however, there may be "mute" tracks.

  • XG / XF / T1/T2/T3/T4/T5 - formats
It should be noted that this is an independent standard of the company YAMAHA, which
has become established as the second standard in the field of Midifile formats.
The new T-formats are specially designed for the keyboards of the product family "Tyros" and are created based on the XG format.
XF stands for an extended XG format, which allows, among other things, a display of chords within the Midifiles in addition to the lyrics.

  • Genos - format
Midifiles in the format "Genos" are based on the XG XF Midifiles and are specially adapted to the Yamaha Keyboard. The use of the various sound variants in combination with the DSP's provide first-class, excellent midifiles.

  • Lyrics / Karaoke-Text
Midifiles contain an own lyrics track, unless it is an instrumental or similar song. In this track, the lyrics are displayed in the timing of the sound, similar to karaoke titles. Distinctions exist only in representation, as complete line or with hyphenation. We chose hyphenation within our midifiles and mp3 playbacks.

  • Arranged vocalists track
Professional Midifiles offer an arranged vocalists track. It has the purpose to support its own voice with additional (second) voices and to reproduce the vocals more harmoniously. Complete choruses can also be offered. In order to achieve this, specific notes are recorded which make the additional vocal voices sound only where they are also available in the original title. Since it is not necessary to turn the vocalists on or off while playing the Midifiles, the artist can concentrate on his own keyboard play and his vocals.

The application requires a corresponding vocalists device, which is either already integrated in the keyboard or used as a stand-along device (e.g. TC-Helicon). The vocalist is usually controlled by the arranged vocalists track of a Midifile or by his own played notes on the keyboard.

  • Chord vocalists track
As the name implies, the addition of additional singing voices take place using the chords played in this track. Since these chords are often used from the beginning to the end of the Midifiles as a "surface" to raise the total sound, it is advisable to manually turn the vocalists on and off.
